Julian Phillips Draft Projection

On Wednesday, former Tennessee Volunteers forward Julian Phillips revealed he is staying in the NBA Draft. Here is where he stacks up among the other draftees.
In this story:

Yesterday was the final day players could maintain their college eligibility and pull themselves from the NBA draft. Former Tennessee Volunteer Julian Phillips opted to stay in the draft and forgo his eligibility.

Phillips is a former five-star recruit from Blythewood, South Carolina. He was a top 20 player in the 2022 class. In his one season with the Vols, he averaged 8.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. His season high in scoring came in the Battle 4 Atlantis, where he had 25 points against USC (Calif.). The Volunteers won that game 73-66 (OT). They also would go on to win the tournament.

Phillips, from a physical standpoint, can offer a decent bit to an NBA team. He stands at 6 feet and 8 inches tall and weighs around 200 pounds. He has a formidable stature for a player who mainly works from the wing spot. The length he has will help him weave through traffic to get open pull-up jump shots or drives to the rim for scoring or passing opportunities. However, his lower averages make it hard to put Phillips higher than a second-round pick. He did not have too many highly productive games scoring, as he only had four games with 15+ points. He was a very effective rebounder. He had 15 games with 5+ boards. He can be an all-around slasher with an improved knack for scoring the basketball. However, that will take time.

Projection: Mid-2nd Round Pick
