Rick Barnes Receiving Bonus
According to a tweet from USA Today Reporter Steve Berkowitz and Tennessee's newly published single-year APR, Tennessee men's basketball coach Rick Barnes will receive a bonus of 100,000. The bonus will go into his 2022-23 contract year.
After an up-and-down season for the Vols, many would argue that Tennessee's season ended on a high note after beating Duke to get to the Sweet 16. Despite the loss to Florida Atlantic, Tennessee was injury-riddled down the stretch, and beating a hot Duke team was a huge achievement.
The Sweet 16 appearance was Tennessee's second under Barnes and a sign that the program is headed in the right direction. Since becoming the coach in Knoxville, Rick Barnes has had five teams seeded five or higher in the NCAA Tournament. With the amount of success Tennessee had before Barnes, this is a noteworthy accomplishment.
Barnes has also shown his ability to adjust to the new era of college basketball. Tennessee is not just recruiting freshmen well but also doing a good job of attacking the portal bringing in Jordan Gainey, Chris Ledlum, and Dalton Knecht. The Vols with Barnes are set for a long time.
