North Texas Guard Receiving Interest From Tennessee
While Florida Atlantic, who knocked out Tennessee, got most of the attention this season out of Conference USA, North Texas won the NIT behind a very good defense. While Tylor Perry wasn't one of the elite defenders that the Mean Green had, he was the initiator of their offense en route to Conference USA Player of the Year.
Perry's common numbers and underlying numbers were both fantastic. In addition to averaging 17 points per game, Perry's KenPom page is littered with red numbers highlighted in yellow, signaling his national ranking in many categories. Some of those include being 54th in both offensive rating and true shooting%. Perry was also around 41% from three and 88% from the line.
What's even greater about Perry is that he had an extremely high minutes% and usage rate and still had really great on-off splits. He even had positive on-off defensive splits, so calling him a two-way player isn't even a reach.
Saying Perry is the best player in the portal is debatable. Getting him would give Rick Barnes a fantastic second option next to Zakai Zeigler, and he could use some of the two-point guard lineups we saw with Zeigler and Kennedy Chandler a year ago.
Tennessee was also recruiting former Washington Guard Keyon Menifield, but Menifield committed to Arkansas. Regardless Perry and Zeigler complement each other way better than Menifield and Zeigler would have. Perry has interest from too many schools to count, but soon enough, we'll get details about the schools he's visiting and seriously considering.
