Ahmad Nowell Strongly Considering The Vols
The Volunteers' basketball program currently has no commitments from players in the 2024 cycle. However, they may be looking to make a splash with Ahmad Nowell. Nowell is the No. 2 player from the state of Pennsylvania, the No. 6 combo guard in the class, and a four-star ranked 51st overall nationally.
He has lots of schools on his list, including Tennessee, Memphis, Auburn, Kansas, and St. John's. He was offered by the Vols back in November of 2022. Nowell is a big, 6-foot-tall guard currently playing for Imhotep Institute in Philadelphia, PA. The team finished No. 5 overall in the high school basketball rankings this past season. He also is a native of Germantown, Tennessee, which is in the Memphis area in Shelby County.
These roots may tie him back to playing for his home state Volunteers. It even may help the Memphis Tigers get a hold on him for recruitment. They already have the 9th-best overall class in 2023 that has four combined five and four stars. On3 has Nowell projected to commit to Memphis.
However, a few analysts from Rivals and 247Sports have projected to commit to Rocky Top. The Volunteers already have a line of great combo guards inclining Josiah-Jordan James and Freddie Dilione. They also have Cameron Carr, a combo guard in the 2023 class, that will be in Knoxville to play next season.
The abundance of these combo guards in Rick Barnes' program means that he must know a thing or two about the position and how to make it successful. This should give Nowell some confidence in possibly signing with Tennessee down the road.
