Amari Jefferson Commits To Alabama Over Tennessee, Georgia
The 2024 recruiting class for the University of Tennessee is seemingly 85% done before we enter the 2023 football season. While we are still months out from early national signing day, the Vols already hold 19 commits with a few targets remaining on the open market.
One of those targets is four-star wide receiver Amari Jefferson (Chattanooga, Tenn.), who has one of the most interesting recruitments in the country. Jefferson is committed to Tennessee for baseball but kept his options open when the Power-5 football offers began flowing in. It quickly became apparent that he was one of the top wideouts in the cycle, and a host of big-time suitors came calling. Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee separated themselves in this one, though the Crimson Tide and the Vols were pacing ahead of Georgia in recent weeks.
Though Tennessee fought hard for Jefferson after he became a national recruit, the allure of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was too much for the young target to pass up. He chose the Crimson Tide on Saturday and plans to play football and baseball in red and white. Tennessee still has a few targets left on its wide receiver board: five-star Missouri native Ryan Wingo and four-star Georgia resident Kam Mikell. We'll see how wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope approaches the rest of the cycle, but things are starting to get interesting.
