Boo Carter Visits Tennessee, Vols Continue To Lead
Relationships are everything in recruiting, even in a growing field. NIL, the transfer portal, and coaching changes have altered many outcomes, but at the end of the day, players want to be where they are wanted. Tennessee frequently reminds in-state safety Boo Carter they want him, a message emphasized this weekend.
Carter returned to Knoxville this weekend for the fourth time this calendar year. He's developed a close relationship with the staffers and team, and the Vols have led his recruitment since Carter became a national recruit. There are several other programs to fight, namely Miami and Colorado, but Tennessee has an overwhelming lead.
Early indications from the visit were strong. Carter toured Tennessee alongside other blue-chip prospects like five-star defensive end Williams Nwaneri. He looked at the first open scrimmage, and sources indicate that the team delivered. The tempo was strong, and the energy was high, leaving recruits in awe.
Those close to the situation remain convinced that Tennessee is the No. 1 contender for Carter, and it isn't particularly close. He hasn't set a timetable for a decision, but the Vols will be firmly in the mix when he does. Carter could play offense or defense in college, but his natural athleticism and instincts project him as an overhang defender playing close to the box.
If Carter chose the Vols, there is a path to early snaps. They desperately need difference-makers in the secondary, their biggest weak point in 2022. Head coach Josh Heupel recognized the problem and quickly went to the recruiting trail to attempt to remedy this, and Carter is a major part of that equation.
