Caleb Odom Releases Top 12 Schools
Tight ends are becoming essential. The best football programs usually have multiple high-caliber tight ends; Georgia won consecutive national championships largely because of standout tight ends Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington, both of whom will likely become first-round draft picks.
The Vols are hoping to replicate that environment in Knoxville. Things got off to a strong start when they signed tight end Ethan Davis in 2023, an athletic freak with pedigree and a multi-sport background. They doubled down on that mold in 2024, landing the commitment of tight end Jonathan Echols. Echols fit their criteria for a new-age tight end, as does uncommitted 2024 tight end Caleb Odom.
Odom is one of the hottest names in recruiting. He's coming off visits to Georgia and Alabama, earning offers to both programs after spending time with the staff. He spent the weekend in Tennessee with new tight ends coach Alec Abeln. Sources confirm that Abeln is excited about the prospect of pairing Odom and Echols, but he has some work before making that possible.
On Sunday, Odom released his top 12 schools. The list featured Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, Penn State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Colorado, Miami, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, and LSU. The Ole Miss Rebels appear to be in a strong spot; head coach Lane Kiffin has done an excellent job connecting with Odom.
Odom routinely speaks fondly of the Vols. They were one of his first major offers, and that faith and early evaluation isn't lost on Odom. It seems they have increased their pursuit of him since Abeln took the job, which likely only increases in the coming weeks.
