Five-Star EDGE Dylan Stewart Releases Top Five, Excludes Tennessee
The Tennessee Volunteers recently hosted 2024 five-star edge rusher Dylan Stewart on an unofficial visit. Stewart sandwiched the trip between other recruiting visits and attending the On3 NIL Elite Series in Nashville, Tennessee. Though the Vols were an afterthought heading into the visit, there was growing optimism that they had built a strong relationship with Stewart during his time on Rocky Top.
Stewart released his top five schools on Friday, and Tennessee was notably absent. He is down to Georgia, Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, and South Carolina. The Gamecocks have been a real surprise in this recruitment - some analysts view Stewart as the No. 1 player in America. South Carolina doesn't often recruit that caliber of player, but head coach Shane Beamer and this new regime identified that they wanted Stewart from day one. The Ohio State Buckeyes are also serious contenders, and a recent official visit to Georgia has the Bulldogs feeling confident.
There's a long road ahead for these programs in the race for Stewart, but the Vols won't be a part of it. They still have many options on the defensive line, with which they are in good standing. Tennessee leads for five-star defensive end Kamarion Franklin and five-star edge rusher Jordan Ross. Tennessee is also in the top group for five-star defensive end Williams Nwaneri and hosts five-star edge rusher Elijah Rushing on an official visit this weekend. While not becoming a finalist for Stewart hurts, it isn't unexpected.
