Edwin Spillman Commits To Tennessee Over Ohio State
Tennessee continued its hot streak on the recruiting trail on Friday, as four-star inside linebacker Edwin Spillman publicly chose the Vols over Ohio State. The Buckeyes did a strong job making this a legitimate battle and did give Spillman something to think about, but the opportunities in Knoxville, Tennessee, were too much to pass over for him.
Spillman is the 18th commit in Tennessee's 2024 recruiting class, the second inside linebacker. Four-star linebacker Jordan Burns (Atlanta, Ga.) was another big addition for Tennessee earlier this summer, and the Vols now have an athletic, aggressive pair of linebackers in the class. Spillman wasn't the only recruit that committed to Tennessee this week, as five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews (Lilburn, Ga.) chose Tennessee over Clemson, Georgia, and USC on Wednesday.
Tennessee still has several pending announcements that could bolster its class before the college football season kicks off. Four-star corner Cai Bates (Orlando, Fla.) will commit on July 26, and many think that is a Tennessee vs. LSU battle. Decisions could also come from five-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin, five-star edge rusher Jordan Ross, and four-star offensive tackle Bennett Warren, though no decision timelines have been set for any of the three.
