Five-Star EDGE Elijah Rushing Schedules Commitment Date
The Tennessee Volunteers rolled out the red carpet for five-star edge rusher Elijah Rushing (Tucson, Ariz.) over the weekend. The west-coast native has now been to Knoxville twice, making the trip for the past two summers. It's taken a lot for the Vols to be in this recruitment; Rushing has been on record that he wants to play on the west coast, but the allure of Knoxville has tempted him.
Rushing has now announced a commitment date after his recent official visit to Tennessee. He will decide between the Vols, Oregon, and Arizona on July 6. Rushing is announcing on 247Sports' College Football Recruiting Show at 5:00 PM EST. Sources around the situation feel that he's interested in Tennessee and the culture but that he still wants to end up on the west coast. The Oregon Ducks seem to be the favorite, though the in-state Arizona Wildcats are building some traction. Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner has prioritized Rushing over the past few months, and we will see if he has a final push in the next nine days.
The physical profile is enticing. Rushing measures in at 6-5 and 250 pounds with great flexion in his lower body. He captures the corner well and uses his hands in pass-rush. There's a definite all-conference ceiling here, and Tennessee needs more players who can get after the quarterback at a high level.
