In-State LB Elijah Herring Talks Recruitment, Vols
Norcross, Ga.-- 2022 linebacker Elijah Herring out of Riverdale High School (Tenn.) attended the Pylon 7v7 Atlanta regional qualifier this weekend to work on his pass coverage ability with Tennessee Select 7v7.
Herring, who holds 13 Division 1 offers, is steadily working through his recruitment. "Everything is going good," Herring said. "I have been talking with a lot of coaches. I am not sure when I am going to take my first virtual tour, yet, but I have been in contact with a few about it."
"Michigan, Mississippi State, Coastal Carolina and Tennessee," Herring said about who he has talked with the most of late.
Herring says at Tennessee he talks with Josh Heupel on a routine basis throughout the week. The two discuss more than just football.
"He is true with me. I can talk about anything with him," Herring said.
It means a lot to Herring that Heupel has shown him a lot of attention since taking over in Knoxville. "It makes me feel special and makes me feel like I am a top guy for him," Herring added.
"They've said they liked how aggressive I am and how I come off the ball with my explosiveness and think that I would fit their scheme," Herring said of the message from the schools recruiting him.
Herring admits the way he comes off the ball is what he likes the most about his game. If there is a facet he could improve between now and the next level, it would be "route recognition and getting better in coverage," he said.
Visits could start sooner than later, which is something Herring will keep an eye on, but he is looking at "somewhere around May" for a commitment timeline.
"A great business program, a football team that is building up to something special and a place I can just enjoy myself," he said on what he wants in a school.
