Tennessee WR Pledge Mike Matthews Commits To Polynesian Bowl
Five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews has seen things die down a bit in the past few weeks. The talented Georgia native committed to Tennessee over Clemson, Georgia, and USC a few weeks ago, giving the Vols a signature win in the 2024 recruiting cycle. There was a lot of noise surrounding Matthews's decision, but as most college announcements go, people are ready for the next one.
Now comes the fun part for Matthews. He's gearing up for his final season at Parkview High School, one of the top programs in the state of Georgia. Matthews already has plans for what he will be doing after the high school season concludes, as he announced on Wednesday that he would play in the Polynesian Bowl, which will air on NFL Network on January 19, 2024, starting at 9:00 PM EST.
Matthews isn't the only five-star Tennessee pledge that will have played in the Polynesian Bowl. Standout freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava put on a show in Honolulu, Hawaii, last year, earning game MVP honors while flashing his coveted arm talent. Matthews hopes to achieve similar feats during his trip out there as the Polynesian Bowl continues gaining traction with elite high school prospects. It'll be another extended look at Matthews squaring off against Power-5 defensive backs, though he does that enough at the high school level. Matthews has a big few months ahead, but now he has something to look forward to after capping it all off.
