Peyton Lewis Gets Big Bump From On3
Salem High School running back Peyton Lewis put the finishing touches on a fantastic career this year. His efforts have paid dividends, as major recruiting services are beginning to notice the DMV product. Though he ranks as the No. 154 prospect in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings, On3 touted Lewis as the No. 67 prospect and No. 4 running back in their final rankings.
Lewis committed in May during the 865 Live Event, which jumpstarted a lot of recruiting momentum for the Vols. Lewis had interests from Alabama, Georgia, and several other top programs. His track speed is a big draw here. Lewis is a two-time Virginia state champion in the 55-meter dash and recently clocked a meet record of 6.37 seconds in the 55-meter. A big question with track speed is if it translates to the game. When I initially evaluated Lewis, I thought it did translate, but we recently got confirmation with some GPS testing data.
Reel Analytics got some data on Lewis from an earlier contest in his junior season. He reached a top speed of 21.9 miles per hour, putting him in the 94% of athletes. He reached that speed in 7.1 seconds, and the most impressive part of that feat is that it would have been the No. 1 game speed in the NFL in the 2022 season. Baltimore Ravens wide receiver DeSean Jackson had the top speed at 21.72 miles per hour, tying him with Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson.
