Ronan O'Connell Narrows Recruitment
The Tennessee Volunteers' 2024 recruiting class will carry a lot of high-caliber trench players. The coaching staff is recruiting premium players on both sides of the football and has also spent time securing key depth to ensure they are ready in a break-glass situation. The No. 1 offensive lineman in Tennessee recently cut down his recruitment, and the Vols, once again, are positioned well for a solid lineman.
Ronan O'Connell is a three-star 2024 interior offensive lineman out of Fred J Page High School in Franklin, Tennessee. He stands 6-4 and weighs 273 pounds. O'Connell narrowed his college list to three on Tuesday but mentioned that his recruitment is still open. His trimmed list consists of Tennessee, Clemson, and Ohio State. O'Connell had 35 offers, with Tennessee offering him last September. He visited Knoxville in late March of this year. Vanderbilt offered him but did not make the cut, as did Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Ole Miss from the SEC. 247Sports has him crystal balled to Tennessee, but things can certainly change. It is key for Tennessee to keep a player like O'Connell in the state, especially since he is interested in such few schools at this point.
He has played on both sides of the line in high school, showing an ability to create penetration defensively, but his main position is along the offensive line. He has experience at offensive tackle but is expected to be an interior guy in college. O'Connell plays the mean brand of football that you love to see from an offensive lineman, especially in the run game. He is no stranger to having plays end with his opponent on the ground as he finishes plays hard. He has the athleticism to pull in the run game, too, and this combination of power and agility is ideal. We will see where his recruitment takes him, but Tennessee should be in good shape after Tuesday's good news.
