Scouting Tennessee's Top 2024 Targets: Somto Cyril

2024 four-star center Somto Cyril recently received an offer from the Tennessee Volunteers. Why are the Vols in pursuit of the highly sought-after big man?
In this story:

Somto Cyril is one of the more intriguing prospects in the 2024 class for basketball recruiting. He is a 7-foot tall, 240-pound center from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and currently plays for Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia

The highly sought-after center currently has offers from plenty of big-time programs like Tennessee, Florida, Georgetown, Kansas, Indiana, etc. He is ranked as a four-star, according to 247Sports. He is also a top 25 player nationally and a top five center in the country. Cyril is the third overall best player in the state of Georgia. Cyril is a matchup nightmare within the low post and right around the rim. His height and length allow him to cover lots of airspace and either score or deny any shots within his vicinity. He is also a very talented dunker and can finish strongly through contact with any defenders in his path. His muscular, 240-pound stature also makes sure that his dunks are powerful and can wow crowds with how he forcibly punches the ball through the rim. His dunking is almost reminiscent of Dwight Howard or Shaquille O'Neal.

On defense, Cyril has great jumping ability for his size. He can come from a good amount of feet away to disrupt close shots at the basket leading to blocks or even just missed attempts. The Chattanooga native is a great inside, low post presence who has the potential to be all-world in college hoops and can even get some attention from NBA scouts. The Volunteers have great potential to land Cyril due to his routes within the state, a little under two hours away in Chattanooga. Head coach Rick Barnes and his recruiting staff can use this to their advantage to help get their next possible big man of the future.
