Standout Peach State ATH Sammy Brown Picks Up Offer From Vols
Rising sophomore Sammy Brown is picking up significant steam on the recruiting trail as his freshman year is winding down.
Brown, a student-athlete at Commerce High School (Ga.), plays both sides of the ball at running back and linebacker. Brown measures in at 6-2, 210 pounds, and those measurables are already catching the attention of college coaches.
"Very humbling; I never imagined that I would get an offer as a freshman," Brown said.
Brown also mentioned how much his father stressed the importance of working out to develop size and speed. However, his measurables alone at this point could draw more attention.
Two events that have played a role in Brown's exposure are the Georgia Elite Classic and The MVP camp series. 247 Sports recruiting analyst Rusty Mansell heads both events.
"He is someone that I respect and trust. He has always been really good to me," Brown said about Mansell.
Already having four offers, it could be just a matter of time before the prospect has numerous schools vying for his services, with several schools engaging in some form of interest with Brown, from letters to social media follows. Roughly ten schools between the ACC and SEC, with a few more from other conferences, could be next for the talented two-way star.
Being in the 2024 class, Brown has to initiate contact with the coaches or they go through his high school coach to extend the offer, making the process a little trickier to navigate.
Vols linebacker coach Brian Jean-Mary extended Brown's offer from Tennessee. When asked what the overall message was, the answer was simple. "They took a look at my film and liked it. They liked what they saw at RB and LB," Brown said.
It is easy to see why schools are remaining open about the position for Brown. The size and skillset he possesses early on show the potential for a tremendous amount of upside. It isn't all for show either, the young athlete would describe his play as "physical" while playing with "great effort and intensity."
Another upside to the peach state prospect is his background as a multi-sport athlete. Brown runs track and was state runner-up in wrestling at the 195 weight class., which he had to cut weight to qualify for.
The success at wrestling could be a point to note with the physical description of the football play as wrestling can be a developer with how to dominate one on one battles.
As good as the athlete is, football will more than likely be the route taken. Brown says, "I enjoy all the sports I play, but football is my passion."
"I am really excited about the schools who have reached out so far," Brown concluded on his early recruitment.
