Tennessee, Michigan In Arms Race For Boo Carter Leading Up To Decision Day
Four-star Boo Carter has been close to committing several times. The Tennessee coaching staff liked their chances each time Carter got close, but ultimately, he never pulled the trigger. He has now set an official announcement date for Saturday, June 17. However, the Vols have competition this time in the form of a Big-Ten powerhouse.
Michigan has been coming hard after Carter for several months. He took an official visit to Ann Arbor over the weekend, and the Wolverines like where they sit. Tennessee still holds a slight edge heading into his decision weekend, in my opinion, but Michigan has made up a lot of ground and made this a two-horse race. Carter has seen both campuses in the past few weeks - he attended the 865 Live Event in Knoxville alongside a few Tennessee commits and high-caliber targets. Michigan has pitched Carter about potentially playing offense and defense in college, an option that has intrigued him throughout the process. Tennessee is recruiting him to play defensive back, where he projects more now.
Carter posted eye-popping numbers during his junior season and saw his recruitment explode. He logged 1,478 all-purpose yards and 28 touchdowns on the offensive end, then turned around and had 40 tackles and four interceptions on defense. He has transferred to Bradley Central High School for his senior season and will play alongside Tennessee defensive back commit Marcus Goree. It will be tough for Michigan to pluck Carter away from the state of Tennessee, especially because the Vols have invested a ton of time into Carter. They gave him his first scholarship offer in May 2021, and over two years later are days away from finding out if they can land him.
