Longhorn Bats Come to Life in 11-3 Win Over Mercer

The Longhorns won their second straight game in blowout fashion over Mercer on Wednesday.

Through two game of a 14-game home stand, the Texas Longhorns have (6-7) seen their offense finally showing signs of life, especially after their 11-3 win over the Mercer Bears (9-5) on Wednesday.

Of course, it should be noted that this isn't exactly the stiffest of competition to start the home stand - Sam Houston State and Mercer - but a win is a win. After all, you can only play who is in front of you.

Against Mercer, though, the Longhorns scored a run in the first four innings, including a pair of four-run innings in the bottom of the second and third.

Leading the charge was freshman catcher Rylan Galvan, who recorded his first career hit on a mammoth two-run home run in the bottom of the second. Galvan finished the night going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, breaking out at the plate.

Elsewhere in the Texas lineup, Dylan Campbell put together an efficient 3-for-4 performance, driving in a run in the process. Campbell, who entered the game with a sub-.200 batting average, now boasts a .209 average and seems to be seeing the ball better at the plate.

As for the pitching, well, it was the usual dominant outing that Texas has shown this season. In what was a scheduled bullpen day, Ace Whitehead got his first career start and delivered 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing two hits.

After Whitehead, the bullpen held the Bears scoreless until the sixth inning and would only allow two separate runs to score over the course of the game in the 11-3 win.

What's next for Texas?

After kicking off their 14-game home stand in dominant fashion, the Longhorns are off on Thursday before returning to action on Friday night to kick off a three-game weekend series against Manhattan.
