Longhorns LF Porter Brown Named Big 12 Player of the Week
The transfer portal has become an instrumental part of roster building across college athletics, with David Pierce and his staff having struck gold with their portal additions following last season.
Texas landed multiple players via the transfer portal but perhaps none has been more important than the addition of TCU outfielder Porter Brown.
Brown has been the engine that has made the Longhorns offense go so far this season, shouldering the load even when the lineup was struggling to find its footing. Now, though, he put together arguably his best week of the season.
In the four games against Incarnate Word and Texas Tech, which saw the Longhorns go 4-0, Brown swung a red hot bat en route to earning his first career Big 12 Player of the Week title.
He hit an absurd .615, with a pair of home runs and doubles each while driving in eight runs and scoring six himself. However, his biggest contributions came in the first two wins over the Red Raiders.
In the series opener Brown came to the plate with the Longhorns trailing by one and proceeded to launch a go-ahead, two-run home to put Texas ahead for good. He followed up those heroics on Saturday with a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, before eventually coming home on a wild pitch in a 6-5 walkoff win.
The Longhorns are riding a 14-game win streak, which Brown's impact has played a key role in. Now, though, Brown and the Longhorns are hitting the road for a mini four-game road trip, with the first game coming on Tuesday against Texas A&M.
