Longhorns Continue Climbing, Move Into D1Baseball Top 15
Despite not getting the series sweep over the Baylor Bears, it was another productive week with a winning record for the Texas Longhorns.
They came into the week having climbed into the top 20 of D1Baseball's top 25 rankings following a 3-1 showing against Air Force and Kansas State. Now, they have climbed even further in the latest D1Baseball top 25 as they find themselves in the top 15.
After going 3-2 last week with a series split against Texas State and series win against Baylor the Longhorns rose five spots all the way to No. 14.
The Longhorns are the highest ranked team in the Big 12 and are two spots ahead of Texas Tech, a team which they already swept to open conference play. Texas and Texas Tech are the only two Big 12 teams ranked this week after a rough week saw Oklahoma State fall out entirely.
Texas finds itself in a prime position with just 18 games left in the regular season as it leads the way in the Big 12, and has an inside track to once again hosting a regional at Disch-Falk Field.
Luckily for the Longhorns they return home for a small five-game home stand, and will look to build on their dominant 20-4 home record - starting with a midweek game on Tuesday against Abilene Christian.
If they can continue to rack up wins, especially to remain in first in the Big 12, the Longhorns will have a rather strong case to be a regional host come June - and a potential super regional host should they win their regional.
