Troy Tulowitzki Rejoins Longhorns, David Pierce Named New Pitching Coach

The Texas Longhorns coaching staff underwent some changes on Monday, as they look to get back to Omaha in 2024.

There have been multiple pitching coaches in David Pierce's first seven seasons with the Texas Longhorns. That trend will continue entering the 2024 season, as the Longhorns parted ways with Woody Williams this offseason. 

Williams replaced Sean Allen last offseason, as he and the Longhorns also parted way after an inconsistent season from the Texas pitching staff. However, Texas sported a top 10 team ERA in college baseball in Williams' lone season.

On Monday, though, it was announced that David Pierce would assume pitching coach duties during the 2024 season. This isn't his first time doing so in his coaching career, having served as Rice's pitching coach from 2006-11. 

That wasn't the only coaching news that dropped for the Longhorns on Monday, though. It was also announced that Troy Tulowitzki would be rejoining the team as the program's director of player development - a huge addition for Pierce's staff heading into next season. 

Even though Tulo will not be a coach on the field, the importance of his addition cannot be understated. He previously worked for Pierce at Texas in an assistant coach role, playing a key role in the development of guys like Trey Faltine and Skyler Messinger - both of which were drafted after stellar 2022 seasons. 

Tulowitzki's return will play a key role for Texas in 2024, as the Longhorns look to develop a strong recruiting class. Getting back to Omaha will be far from easy, but Pierce is once again putting together a staff capable of doing so.
