Longhorns OF Dylan Campbell Drafted No. 136 Overall by Los Angeles Dodgers
There were few players you wanted at the plate in a clutch situation this season for the Texas Longhorns more than right fielder Dylan Campbell. His smooth swing defined a strong Texas lineup, and helped him hear name called during the 2023 MLB Draft.
Campbell was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the No. 136 overall pick, taken with a compensatory pick the Dodgers. He leaves Austin with a storied legacy, and one of the best players to sport the burnt orange and white in the program's history.
He slashed .339/.436/.603 for the Longhorns in 2023, launching 13 home runs and racking up 50 RBI. His prowess at the plate was on full display, putting together a 38-game hitting streak - which is both a school and Big 12 record.
Not just a dominant hitter, the Longhorns right fielder dazzled defensively while patrolling right field. Balls rarely fell in front of him, as he went all out to snag anything hit remotely near him. Running on him was also a bad idea, as his cannon for an arm helped him record eight outfield assists.
There is an outside chance that Campbell will opt to return for one more season with the Longhorns, as the slot value for his pick is approximately $473.7 thousand. However, the most likely outcome is Campbell pursuing a professional career and bringing an end to an iconic Texas career.
