'Run It Back': Longhorns 3B Peyton Powell Announces 2024 Return

The good news keeps rolling in for the Texas Longhorns, with Peyton Powell announcing he'll be back next season.

Once the 2024 baseball season starts in February, the Texas Longhorns will be in a strong position to not only compete for another conference championship, but a trip back to Omaha and the College World Series. 

So far this offseason they've seen their entire recruiting class make it to campus except for one, an elite pitcher duo in Tanner Witt and Lebarron Johnson Jr. announced their return as well as left fielder Porter Brown. 

Their 2024 roster got even stronger on Tuesday, though, with another key starter announcing they would be returning with third baseman Peyton Powell taking to Instagram to issue three simple words - "Run it back."

Powell's breakout season played a huge role in the Longhorns winning the Big 12 and coming up just one game short of a third straight trip to Omaha. After being inserted into the lineup due to an ejection, he would go on to become an everyday starter. 

Upon earning his spot in the lineup, he finished the season with an impressive slash line of .339/.431/.548, launching 10 home runs and driving in 46 runs. He also played stellar defense at third, anchoring the hot corner for Texas. 

The Longhorns getting back Powell, alongside Witt, Johnson and Brown, goes a long ways towards how good they can be next season. Predicting results this far out would be foolish, but there is plenty of reason to be excited about what 2024 holds.
