No Plans For Longhorns Alternate Uniforms Says AD Del Conte
There are few brands in college sports that are more recognizable than the iconic burnt orange and white that the Texas Longhorns don.
While other sports, from basketball to baseball, have multiple jersey combinations, football has two. At home they sport the burnt orange tops and white pants, while on the road they bust out the "stormtroopers" or the classic white tops/white pants combo.
However, there have been calls by some for alternate uniforms. When asked about potential alternates, though, athletic director Chris Del Conte's answer was simple.
"As long as I'm working for you and I'm working at the University of Texas ... there's two colors, burnt orange and white," Del Conte said. "If God wanted multicolored sunsets, He'd have made them purple and green. But He didn't. They're burnt orange. ... It's not old. It's not stuffy. It's Texas. It's the best."
Some schools are better suited for the alternate uniform - such as Oregon, with its dozens upon dozens of uniform combinations in recent years. Texas, however, is a school that would likely not benefit in straying from its traditional look.
After all, when your two uniform combinations are among the most iconic in the sport, why fix what isn't broken?
