Longhorns Land in PFF's Way-Too-Early 2023 Top 25 Rankings
With just under seven months until the Texas Longhorns kick off their season against the Rice Owls on Sept. 2, it isn't unreasonable to take a look at what to expect from the Longhorns in year three under Steve Sarkisian.
Between now and September there will be numerous "way-too-early" Top 25 rankings, and Texas will be a polarizing team in said rankings.
In PFF's "way-too-early" rankings the Longhorns not only crack the Top 20, but are just on the outside of the Top 15 - coming in at No. 16.
On paper it isn't too hard to see why the Longhorns are a preseason darling in several of these rankings. Quinn Ewers showed out in Texas' Alamo Bowl loss to Washington, and the return of the entire starting offensive line is a big win for his development.
On the defensive side of the ball several key contributors are returning including linebacker Jaylan Ford. The returning talent paired with an elite 2023 recruiting class is plenty of reason for fans to be optimistic.
Of course, the games aren't played on paper. While Ewers may very well take the next step to Heisman contention, he could also have difficulty leading the Longhorns offense without being able to rely on Bijan Robinson.
Until the season starts, though, this discourse continues to be pure speculation. The Longhorns have the talent to compete for a conference title this year, now it is up to them to take advantage.
