The Texas Longhorns will be getting their star quarterback Quinn Ewers Back in 2024

The Texas Longhorns 2024 run at the College Football Playoffs just got a major boost.

Fresh off a devastating Sugar Bowl loss to Washington in New Orleans, in the CFP semi-finals, many Longhorns were set to make decisions on their future - star receiver Xavier Worthy being the first, declaring for the NFL Draft.

Adonai Mitchell, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Johnathon Brooks, T'Vondre Sweat, Byron Murphy and many others followed suit in the days after Worthy made his choice.

Now, the next major domino has dropped. And this time it has gone in the Longhorns' favor, with star quarterback Quinn Ewers announcing his intentions to return to Texas for their inaugural season in the SEC in 2024 on Thursday.

"Dear Longhorn Nation, ever since I was a kid I dreamed of playing football at the University of Texas," Ewers said in his announcement. "I couldn't be more thankful for all my teammates and coaches, and I'm beyond grateful to be in the position I'm in. God has shown me who I am these past two years that I have been here, and through the ups and downs, these fans and this university have always had my back. With that being said, I'm coming back. Hook 'Em."

The news of Ewers' will also not affect the status of freshman Arch Manning, who fully intended on spending another season in Austin regardless of Quinn's decision to stay or go.

When healthy, Ewers has been elite this season, completing 272 of 394 passes for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns with six interceptions in 14 games.

Texas Star WR Xavier Worthy Declares for NFL Draft

Compare that to his 2022 stats, where he completed 172 of 296 passes (58.1 percent) for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns with six picks in 10 games, and you can see the amazing leap forward he was able to make in one off-season.

“I want to be the quarterback who worked every year to get better," Ewers told ESPN's Pete Thamel. "The quarterback who loved his teammates, the quarterback who won a lot of football games and brought Texas football back to the top of college football where it belongs.”

And if he can improve at the same rate he did from Year 1 to Year 2, in between Year 2 and Year 3, he could find himself in contention for a No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick in 2025.
