Quinn Ewers Reveals Difference in 'Focused' Longhorns
AUSTIN - At least through the first four weeks of the season, the Texas Longhorns have looked like a different team than fans have been accustomed to in recent years.
Not just from the standpoint of wins - where they are 4-0 for the first time since 2009 - but with how they have looked and carried themselves throughout each matchup.
On Monday, Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers revealed a big reason behind that mentality change, and how the team has progressed in year three under Steve Sarkisian.
"We've really just been focused on keeping our cool," Ewers said on Monday. "We've got a bunch of sayings inside our building to keep us collected, calm, and poised throughout the entire game."
One way that Ewers has been able to help the Longhorns 'keep their cool' is by leading by example, and being a leader in the locker room.
And through four weeks of preparation and putting in the work, it seems to be working.
"Ultimately, the more you prepare the freer you can play," Ewers said. "Ultimately, I think it's big on getting out to a good start and finding early completions."
Now, moving forward into Week 5, the Longhorns have another tough test. This time, against another 4-0 team - the No. 24 ranked Kansas Jayhawks.
And despite the annual matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners looming just a week later, Ewers and the Horns are focused on the task at hand.
"They're a great team," Ewers said of the Jayhawks. "Obviously, they're undefeated. We go into every game like it's a championship game. We don't overlook any opponent."
