South Carolina Gamecocks Transfer WR Juice Wells No Longer Visiting Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns are looking for adequate replacements for their elite trio of pass catchers in the transfer portal, and former South Carolina Gamecocks star Juice Wells might be the guy.

The Texas Longhorns are currently in the midst of their best season in nearly 15 years, and are hoping to be the final team standing in the College Football Playoff.

However, while Steve Sarkisian is currently thinking of ways to out-scheme Kalen DeBoer, he is also looking ahead to 2024. With the transfer portal opening and early signing day around the corner, the Longhorns have a major need at wide receiver. While there is optimism that quarterback Quinn Ewers will be back, Texas is expected to lose its three best receivers and top tight end to the NFL.

On one hand, it's a great thing to see that Texas is again pumping out NFL talent, but on the other, if they want to continue to compete at the highest level they need weapons. While Johntay Cook II has waited his turn and is ready to step in, the Longhorns are also looking to the portal for some help. One of their top targets is the South Carolina pass-catcher Antwane "Juice" Wells.

The Longhorns have already been deemed a team to look out for when it comes to Wells, and according to On3's Pete Nakos, the 6-foot-1 receiver was set be visit Austin this weekend.

However, per a new report from Inside Texas, those plans are no longer in play, and Wells will not be making his way to Austin.

That said, Texas is still very much a player in his recruitment, and his visit plan falling through has not affected that.

Wells played two seasons at James Madison before transferring to South Carolina ahead of 2022 and has recorded 187 catches for 2,818 yards and 28 touchdowns in his four-year career.

Injury cut his season short this year, but there is no doubt that he'd be a great get for Texas, who is looking to bring in a couple of portal veterans.

The Longhorns will have to outlast Ole Miss and Oregon for their services. Wells ranks as the No. 2 wide receiver in the transfer portal, and No. 8 player overall.
