Steve Sarkisian Has Positive Longhorns Injury Update Ahead of Sugar Bowl

The Texas Longhorns had some key injuries coming out of the Big 12 Championship, and Steve Sarkisian updated their status on Wednesday

AUSTIN, TX -- Wednesday was mostly about the Early Signing Period for the Texas Longhorns.

However, there was still practice to be had for their date with the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff semi-final in New Orleans on Jan. 1.

Luckily for the Horns, with that game still 12 days away, there has been ample time for the team to get healthy after a hard-fought end to the regular season, that saw key players such as Austin Jordan, Xavier Worthy, and Ryan Watts battle through injuries.

During his post-signing day presser, Sarkisian updated the status of all three of those players and sounded very pleased with where they are currently in their rehab.

"All of them looked really good to me," Sarkisian said. "Are they all quite 100 percent? I don’t know. I know they look fast. They were running around. That’s a real positive, knowing we still have two weeks to the ballgame."

"I think everything’s trending the right way on that front, and they were going," Sarkisian said. "That part’s good. I think everybody will be available for the ballgame, and we’re fortunate on that. Having a month, we should be able to get everybody back.”

A real positive indeed, particularly in the case of Jordan and Watts, who should be available to reinforce the Longhorns' secondary against arguably the best passing attack in the country.

It is also huge in the case of Worthy, who had been noticeably battling ankle and lower body issues over the last couple of weeks of the season, to the point where he had to be helped to the locker room both vs. Texas Tech in the regular season finale, and in the Big 12 title game vs. Oklahoma State.

Texas and Washington will kick off at 7:45 CT on Jan. 1 in New Orleans.
