Does Steve Sarkisian Trust Texas Receiver Depth?

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made a bizarre comment about rotating receivers.

Despite Texas having one of the best trios of wide receivers in the country, head coach Steve Sarkisian appears to not trust the guys behind them.

The room is headlined by Xavier Worthy, AD Mitchell, and Jordan Whittington who have combined for 33 catches, for 460 yards while five of Texas' eight passing touchdowns. Not including tight ends or running backs, the rest of the Texas receiver room has combined for 3 catches for 40 yards between Johntay Cook II and Isaiah Neyor.

Something that has perplexed Texas fans, and even led to Sarkisian being asked about the lack of guys rotating in and what his plans are for conference play. His answer indicating he'd like to, but doesn't trust the rest of the room.

“I think ultimately anytime you start rotating receivers you have to ask yourself ‘Is that what is the best interest of our team to be successful in the moment?’ And so, the moment I take Xavier (Worthy) off the field or AD Mitchell off the field or Jordan Whittington off the field, is that in the best interest. I would like to rotate guys more.”

Outside of the Alabama game, the Texas passing game hasn't really been performing nearly as well as expected. Especially with Heisman hopeful Quinn Ewers at the helm. Despite Ewers and his stud-cast of pass catchers, the Longhorns rank dead last in the country in offensive success rate according to CFBGraphs

Whether it is because Sarkisian is seeing the struggles and inefficacies with his best group and doesn't want it to decline even more, or is hoping they will figure things out, this Texas offense is currently the weak link of the team and likely won't be throwing more guys into the mix until it's solved.

Many Texas fans were hoping for a big year from Neyor who transferred in from Wyoming a year ago and prior to tearing his ACL in the spring game, was being raved about.
