Texas A&M Star Evan Stewart Enters Transfer Portal; Longhorns In Play?
With a new head coach, and multiple players already in the NCAA Transfer Portal, the Texas A&M Aggies are a program in transition.
And now, another player appears to be on his way out. Only this time, it's a big one: star wide receiver and former Texas Longhorns commit, Evan Stewart.
Perhaps the most high-profile player on the entire Texas A&M roster, Stewart came to the Aggies as the No. 1 player in Texas, the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation, and the No. 8 overall player in the nation, per the On3 industry ranking.
He was also the headline player in the Aggies' historic 2022 recruiting class, which ranked No. 1 all-time by multiple recruiting services, and picked the Aggies over Texas, Alabama, and Georgia.
Stewart has played in just eight games this season and has missed two of the last three games for the Aggies, including both of their matchups with Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
On the season Stewart has made 38 catches for 514 yards and four touchdowns - he is second on the team in all three categories.
Among the rumored schools in contention for the now-former Aggies star are the Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Ohio State Buckeyes, among others.

But could the Longhorns be a player? Based on their needs, Stewart's connections with the program, and his fit in the offense, absolutely.
In terms of connections, Stewart already has a preexisting relationship with Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff, which recruited him heavily during the 2022 cycle. Not only that, but Stewart is also close with freshman wideout Johntay Cook, who has tried to recruit Stewart to the Horns before.
As for needs? The Longhorns could theoretically lose Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, and Jordan Whittington to the NFL. There is also the possibility of the Horns suffering transfer portal losses at the position.
In other words, even before Stewart entered the portal, the Longhorns were going to be active in the wide receiver transfer market.
Besides that, Stewart is also as good of a fit as the Longhorns could possibly find in the transfer market for their offense, possessing many of the same traits as Worthy and Mitchell, and seemingly limitless potential.
Where Will Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell Land In 2024 NFL Draft?
Now, does all of that mean the Longhorns will be the favorites? Not necessarily. The Crimson Tide should also be considered a major threat as well.
One way or another, though, the Longhorns should be in the thick of the battle to land Stewart, and he should absolutely be a name for Texas fans to keep an eye on in the coming hours and days.
