For the first time since 2018, the Texas Longhorns have secured a 10-game winning season.

After the Longhorns defeated the Iowa State Cyclones with a 26-16 score on Saturday in Ames, only one regular season game remains before the Big 12 Championship contenders are announced.

“I was really proud of our team,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “This was not a win in one phase or one aspect. This was a lot of different players making plays tonight, making plays at some pretty critical moments.”

Not only is this a major accomplishment for the Longhorns, but personally for Sarkisian as well. This year marks Sarkisian's first 10-win season as a head coach in his entire career. He previously recorded a nine-win season with USC back in 2014.

The win against Iowa State was a team effort, it was not "one phase or one aspect" as Sarkisian said. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers recorded a total of 281 yards off of 22 completed passes against the Cyclones while recording two touchdowns as well.

As far as the running game, freshman running back CJ Baxter stepped into the starting role for the injured Jonathon Brooks and recorded an over-100-yard game.

Ewers could barely find the words to explain what their successes this season have meant to him and the rest of the Longhorns roster.

“There's nothing better, especially doing it with the people that I pretty much spend all my hours of the day with," Ewers said. "You know these are my brothers, I got their back, they got my back and I couldn't be more fired up to see all the fruition of the work that we do put in in the offseason and even in the season. It's really rewarding whenever you put the work in like we have and then comes out here and we have ten wins. I mean it's a phenomenal feeling, I can't really explain it."
