Steve Sarkisian Not Satisfied With Texas After Upsetting Alabama
Austin, Texas is likely still buzzing after their huge win over Nick Saban and No. 3 Alabama on Saturday.
The Longhorns went into Tuscaloosa as touchdown underdogs and left with a double-digit victory and a much-needed win to silence the rising number of doubters. Despite a Heisman-like performance from quarterback Quinn Ewers who was finally hitting on his deep passes, and a masterclass showing on defense from a unit that sacked Jalen Milroe five times and picked him off twice, Steve Sarkisian is not yet satisfied.
Even with these great showings from the team, Sarkisian told the media on Monday that there is still some room for improvement from the No. 4 ranked Longhorns.
Sarkisian cited ball security as a major issue from the game, as the proverbial "football gods" appeared to be on their side in a game where they fumbled the ball twice and had a couple of other close calls that they didn't lose possession on.
“We’ve got to take care of the ball better than we did. That thing cannot be as loose as it was. We still missed a couple opportunities in the red area where we had chances to score, which is somewhere we definitely need to improve. We got a little sloppy in our coverage and allowed them to make some explosive plays there in the fourth quarter.”
He also discussed Alabama's late surge that saw them put up 18-second-half points after holding them to just six in the first. This method from Sarkisian is something he likely learned from Saban, as there is no doubt he is still thrilled with the win but is making sure the team stays grounded after the win.
