Longhorns Among 'Most Likely' College Football Playoff Teams
It seems like every college football offseason there will be a debate around how good the Texas Longhorns are. Not that it is an unwarranted topic of discussion, with the Longhorns looking to finally climb back to the top of the college football world.
But this year, at least on paper, is one that feels like it could be different for the Longhorns. They enter Year 3 under coach Steve Sarkisian with a boatload of talent on both sides of the ball, and according ESPN's analytics are one of the four most-likely teams to make the College Football Playoff.
The Longhorns in this projection join College Football Playoff mainstays in the Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide and back-to-back national champion Georgia Bulldogs.
There is plenty to like about this Texas team as it looks to take yet another step forward under Sarkisian. Another year of development for quarterback Quinn Ewers, all five offensive line starters returning, a plethora of offensive weapons and a defense that looked elite in 2022 creates some understandable hype.
Of course, talent has never been the issue for the Longhorns in their recent stretch of mixed result, as there has been an inability to maximize on said talent and produce wins as a result.
Going from five wins to eight wins was a good first step for the Longhorns last season. Now, they must show that they've improved once again if they want to be taken seriously as College Football Playoff contenders.
