Texas Longhorns Dominate Oklahoma State Cowboys, Win Big 12 Championship
ARLINGTON, TX -- Yes, Texas is back.
Whether or not the College Football Playoff committee lets Texas in or not, the Longhorns' 49-21 domination of the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship proves unequivocally that they are, in fact, one of the best programs in college football.
And from the opening kick, it was an absolute clinic by Steve Sarkisian and the offense.
In seven first-half drives, the Longhorns scored five touchdowns, with the lone two Cowboys stops coming on an interception and a missed field goal by Bert Auburn at the end of the half.
In the first half alone, the Longhorns racked up 422 yards of offense, including 354 yards and four touchdowns through the air from quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Ewers would go on to end the game by shattering Big 12 Championship passing records with a stat line of 35 of 46 passes for a career-high 452 yards and four touchdowns - one of which came to Texas defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat.
Defensively, the Longhorns had a handful of leaks, but ultimately stymied the Oklahoma State attack. They were also tremendous against Big 12 offensive player of the year, Ollie Gordon, who was held to 34 yards on 13 carries.
Now with the emphatic win in their back pocket - their fifth over a ranked team - the Longhorns will now sit and await their fate as the College Football Playoff committee makes their deliberations.
Should the Florida State Seminoles lose on Saturday night, the door will be wide open for the Horns to make it to the Playoff. Should the Seminoles win, that path becomes rather difficult.
Either way, however, yes, Texas is back.
