Nation's Best? Stock of Texas Longhorns QB Room On The Rise

The hype surrounding the potential of the Texas Longhorns quarterback room is rising heading into the summer
In this story:

Just over a year ago, the Texas Longhorns had a giant question mark at the quarterback position. Hudson Card was an inexperienced freshman, and Casey Thompson was the team's best shot a consistency.

Now, both Card and Thompson are gone, and Steve Sarkisian has seemingly flipped that narrative on its head, with Quinn Ewers garnering significant offseason hype after a stellar spring. Meanwhile, Maalik Murphy has impressed a great deal himself thus far in the No. 2 role, and the future of Arch Manning seems as bright as can be.

In fact, the hype is so strong surrounding the Longhorns quarterback situation, that On3 ranked them as the third-best QB room in the country, behind just USC - which is the home of the defending Heisman Trophy winner, Caleb Williams - and the LSU Tigers

The Horns also ranked ahead of North Carolina and star QB Drake Maye, Oklahoma, Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, and Ole Miss on the list.

"Steve Sarkisian has stacked a trio of blue-chippers on top of one another, building an envious QB room in Austin," said On3. "Quinn Ewers grabbed the starting job by the horns this spring, but Maalik Murphy looked like one of the best backups in America entering the summer, too. Oh, and then Texas also has Arch Manning waiting in the wings as insurance, just a 5-star third-stringer with real tools and legit upside."

At the end of the day, these rankings are purely subjective at this point in the offseason, and compelling arguments could be made for the Horns to be both higher and lower on the list.

However, given the star power in the locker room, and that man at the helm coaching them in Sarkisian, the Horns certainly have as high of a ceiling as anyone else at the position for the future.
