Iowa State Matchup vs. Longhorns Named in Gambling Scandal

Amidst the Iowa State Cyclones gambling scandal, their 2021 game against the Texas Longhorns was allegedly a key part of the report.
In this story:

Iowa State defensive tackle Isaiah Lee allegedly placed 26 wagers on 12 Cyclones football games and one of them involved the Texas Longhorns, according to the Des Moines Register.

Lee is accused of placing a bet on Texas to beat Iowa State in 2021, but the Cyclones bested the Longhorns 30-7. Lee recorded one tackle against the Longhorns in 2021.

The Chicago native is one of seven players named in Iowa State's gambling scandal, joining starters quarterback Hunter Dekkers, running back Jirehl Brock, tight end DeShawn Hanika and offensive linemen Jacob Remsburg and former players Enyi Uwazurike and Dodge Sauser.

“Since becoming aware of potential NCAA eligibility issues related to sports wagering by several of our student-athletes back in May, Iowa State University has been actively working to address these issues with the involved student-athletes, and that process remains ongoing," Iowa State senior athletics director Nick Joos said in a statement Thursday. "We will continue to support our student-athletes as our compliance staff works with the NCAA to sort out questions surrounding their future eligibility for athletics competition.”

The gambling scandal has permeated throughout the state of Iowa to the Hawkeyes' program. Iowa wide receiver Jack Johnson and kicker Aaron Blom and former players wide receiver Arland Bruce IV and safety Reggie Bracy have been named in investigations as those who allegedly placed illegal bets, according to Iowa City-Press Citizen.

Iowa State wrestler Paniro Johnson and Iowa manager Owen O'Brien were also named in the gambling investigations.
