Longhorns OT Kelvin Banks: Texas’ Next Superstar?
The Texas Longhorns have lost some star-studded names and faces this offseason.
On defense, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is looking to take his flurry of armbands to the NFL, while cornerback D’Shawn Jamison has similar league-bound expectations.
On offense, Texas is losing two cherished names in the backfield, as running back Bijan Robinson is set to be the first player at his position off the board in this year’s draft while Roschon Johnson is essentially a lock to find himself on an NFL roster.
But as for one of the guys that was blocking for the pair of ball-carriers? Maybe he’s the next Longhorns star to emerge.
247Sports revealed it's list of players set to breakout as superstars next season and listed Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks amongst an elite group of names.
Here's what the site had to say, including going as far to predict that Banks could become "the best tackle in college football" once the 2023 season ends.
A brick wall on Quinn Ewers’ blindside during the 2022 season, Kelvin Banks had arguably the best true freshman season by a tackle since Penei Sewell. Banks allowed only two sacks and 12 pressures, holding up in high-profile battles against the likes of Will Anderson, Will McDonald and Felix Anudike-Uzomah (he didn’t allow a sack against any of them). Offensive linemen only get better over time as they refine their technique and gain strength. There’s a world in which Banks emerges as the best tackle in college football by the end of the 2023 season.
Longhorn fans already know how talented Banks is. But maybe by the end of the season, the whole country will know what they've been missing.
