ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. 'Will Retire' If Ravens Draft Bijan Robinson
If you follow football, whether it be the NFL or college football, then you likely know who Mel Kiper Jr. is. Widely considered one of the best draft analysts, Kiper is one of the go-to experts for all things NFL draft related.
Of course, that does not mean Kiper is above being hyperbolic about draft coverage and what players end up where.
As such, he was not happy to see the Ravens draft Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson with their first-round pick in Todd McShay's latest mock draft. In fact, he jokingly threatened to retire if the Ravens do draft the Texas running back.
“There’s no way you didn’t put Bijan Robinson just to aggravate me and Ravens fans,” Kiper said. “If you’re right on this one, I will retire, I can guarantee you that.”
Now, this isn't the first time Kiper has feigned retirement over a draft pick. Most famously, he said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen didn't pan out in the NFL, asking to give it eight years.
Well, the eight-year mark passed five years ago in 2018.
However, he does raise a valid point that running back is far from the biggest need for the Ravens. That title goes to getting Lamar Jackson receiver help outside of tight end Mark Andrews.
That being said, if Robinson is the best player available come pick No. 22 he may very well end up in Baltimore. As for Kiper, well, we'll see if this is the pick that actually pushes him into retirement.
