Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Calls Players-Only Meeting Ahead of Wyoming
The Texas Longhorns 34-24 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide has not only set a new standard in Austin but has the fan base frothing at the mouth for a return to prominence for the program.
For good reason too.
The win was not only historic, program-defining, and momentum-changing, but it also made the Longhorns the center of national media attention.
For now, unless they find a way to stumble somewhere throughout their extremely favorable schedule, that will continue, and they will be a trendy College Football Playoff pick for the rest of the season.
Nick Saban, and now Jaylan Ford apparently, would call that 'rat poison.'
And according to Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian, his quarterback Quinn Ewers is making sure that his team gets 'refocused' for their matchup with Wyoming in Week 3, with the sophomore calling a players-only meeting ahead of Saturday.
"Interestingly enough, I got a text from Quinn 'Do you mind if we have a players-only meeting Tuesday morning before we start,'" Sarkisian revealed. "And so, of course. The fact that Quinn, that leadership committee wanted to have a players-only meeting to make sure that they were reiterating the message about getting refocused on what we need to do this week I thought was a great sign for us."
That will be easier said than done, of course. After all, beating a behemoth like Alabama is enough to inject 'rat poison' into any 18-21-year-old football player.
However, given the strides that Ewers has made as a leader this offseason, as well as the overall culture of the football program in 2023, one has to think that Texas will take care of business against the Cowboys on Saturday.
