Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers To Throw At Texas Pro Day

Despite returning for another season, Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers will throw at the annual Pro Day later this week.

The Texas Longhorns are getting back quarterback Quinn Ewers for his senior season as the program transitions to the SEC.

Before that, he'll spend one more afternoon throwing to Adonai Mitchell, Ja'Tavion Sanders, Jordan Whittington, and Xavier Worthy before they begin their NFL careers next season.

According to On3, Ewers will throw at Texas' Pro Day on March 20. It'll be a moment for Mitchell and Worthy to continue to boost their first-round draft stock before April 25's showcase in Detroit. But it'll also serve as a trial run for Ewers before he declares for the draft in 2025.

Last season, Ewers was the offensive glue that carried the Longhorns to their first Big 12 title since 2009. He threw for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns while also posting career highs in completion percentage (69 percent) and passer rating (158.6). Ewers caught fire in the Big 12 Championship against Oklahoma State, when he set a conference title record of 452 yards and four touchdowns.

Against Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinal, Ewers threw for 318 yards and a touchdown in a 37-31 loss. He also rushed for 54 yards on eight carries and nearly completed the comeback after trailing by 13 in the fourth quarter.

Worthy and Mitchell headline the Texas receivers after their performances at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. Mitchell, who spent one season in Austin after winning back-to-back titles at Georgia, ran a 4.34 40-time and posted a 39.5-inch vertical jump.

But it was Worthy who stole the show and made NFL history in the process. After posting the fastest 40-time of the week at 4.25 seconds, Worthy chose to run again, beating John Ross' 4.22 record with a 4.21-second finish.

Since breaking the record, players across the league have congratulated Worthy on making history, including former All-Pro receiver DeSean Jackson, Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis, and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Worthy emulates his game after former Kansas City Chiefs and current Miami Dolphins speedster Tyreek Hill.

Worthy has been linked to the Chiefs in multiple mock drafts given his speed. Kansas City has been missing a vertical threat since trading away the All-Pro in 2022 but recently signed former Oklahoma standout Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $11 million.

“In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs,” Worthy told USA TODAY Sports. “Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me.”

As for Ewers, he'll still have speed returning for the 2024 season with the addition of Oregon State transfer Silas Bolden and Houston transfer Matthew Golden. Texas also has former 2023 standout Johntay Cook entering his sophomore season.

Other key players working out at Texas' Pro Day include defensive linemen Byron Murphy and T'Vondre Sweat, linebacker Jaylan Ford, offensive lineman Christian Jones, running back/kick returner Keilan Robinson, defensive back Ryan Watts and Whittington, among others.
