LOOK: Texas QB Arch Manning Throwing Darts In Private Workout
It may be Quinn Ewers' team in 2023, but Arch Manning will certainly be in the mix in either the 2024-25 seasons after his predecessor's departure for the NFL.
When the world got their first public look at Manning in Texas' Orange-White Game, they wrote off his abilities after going 5-of-13 for 30 yards. However, he has progressed through spring camp and was seen working out with Quarterback Country, which has worked with Eli Manning, Daniel Jones, Stetson Bennett and Drake Maye among others, according to its website.
The expectations loomed large for Manning who threw for 8,577 yards and 115 touchdowns in four years at Isidore Newman High School. Not only does he have the last name of one of the greatest family of quarterbacks in NFL history, but he was named the No. 1 player in the class of 2023, projected to be a top-10 NFL Draft pick and received a player comparison to Cincinnati Bengals' gunslinger Joe Burrow.
This forecast for a player who hasn't thrown a college pass yet will likely result in, as we saw during the spring game, minute ridicule for every throw Manning makes.
It doesn't take long to find someone in a similar boat: try Texas' starting quarterback in Ewers.
Though Ewers battled injuries last year, he didn't live up to the expectations of being the No. 1 player in the class of 2021. He threw for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns to six interceptions, but it wasn't to the standard that a player who also received a first-round draft pick projection and comparison to longtime NFL great Philip Rivers should be at.
Manning will continue his work in the shadows, though, and only time will tell if he will be ready to lead the Longhorns through the treacherous Southeastern Conference.
