Texas Rated Higher Than Oklahoma In Latest 'JP Poll'

The Texas Longhorns suffered their first loss of the season two weeks ago against the Oklahoma Sooners

In college football, we often find perfection in the imperfections around the sport.

The biggest example of this typically comes when discussing rankings, and which teams are actually better than one another. There are times when teams get beat because they aren't as good as their opponent, but there are also times when they simply get outplayed or outcoached, but that doesn't mean they aren't the better team overall. Something Texas fans view is what happened when their Longhorns lost to their bitter rival in the Oklahoma Sooners a couple of weeks ago.

Regardless of the game's outcome, 247Sports' Josh Pate still had Texas as the No. 4 team in his latest "JP Poll" which he releases weekly, while Oklahoma came in at No. 8 according to his model.

Pate also linked a video explaining the model behind the JP Poll, which is based on which teams would be favored on a neutral site field.

So, while Olkahoma beat Texas and is ranked higher in the AP Poll, the reason they are four spots behind Texas in the rankings is that if they were scheduled to play this weekend on a neutral site, the Longhorns would again be favored.

Texas fans and Oklahoma fans alike are hoping the two teams will face off again, but obviously that can only happen if they each make it to the Big 12 title game. They each had a bye this past week, and both while they are talented enough to make it, have not yet sealed their fate.

The Longhorns will be looking to bounce back against Houston, while Oklahoma will be playing UCF for the first and last time as Big 12 foes.
