'Great For College Football': Aggies' Jimbo Fisher 'Excited' To Revive Texas-Texas A&M Rivalry
As it stands Monday, there are 33 days until the Texas Longhorns football team takes the field against Rice.
However, leave a person to wonder about 2024 for a minute: Texas-Texas A&M at Kyle Field. Just thinking about that game gets the juices flowing, ready for the return of the best sport this country has to offer.
Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher believes the Lone Star Showdown's revival is a win for the common fan, no matter their allegiance.
"I've been in a lot of rivalries, been fortunate to be in college football a long time and be in some of the great rivalries in college football, and this one, A&M and Texas definitely is a great rivalry," Fisher said at SEC Media Days July 17. "It's great for us and it's great for them, and it's great for college football in general. Very excited for it to happen."
By then there will be a lot of new things happening in Austin.
The Longhorns will likely have a new quarterback under center in either Arch Manning or Maalik Murphy after Quinn Ewers' potential NFL departure, and they will have joined the Southeastern Conference along with the Oklahoma Sooners.
As it stands in College Station, Conner Weigman will be, along with the rest of the Aggies' historic 2022 recruiting class, a junior entering in his second year in Bobby Petrino's offense.
The last time the two met, Justin Tucker drilled a 40-yard field goal at the buzzer to win it. What will the 2024 rendition have in store?
