Six players from the Texas Longhorns' roster could make their way to Mobile, Ala., for the annual Senior Bowl in February to bolster their draft stock. One player officially accepted his invitation.

Defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat will play in the 75th Reese's Senior Bowl on Feb. 3 at Hancock Whitney Stadium. Sweat will have a chance to work with NFL scouts and coaching staff in preparation for the NFL Combine in March.

The five other Longhorns invited include right tackle Christian Jones, linebacker Jaylan Ford, defensive back Jahdae Barron, and defensive linemen Alfred Collins and Byron Murphy. They are expected to decide following Friday's regular-season finale matchup against Texas Tech.

Sweat, a senior from Huntsville (Texas), might be one of college football's most underappreciated players. In 11 games, he's totaled 37 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Sweat has also tallied eight quarterback pressures and three pass deflections at the line of scrimmage.

Sweat headlines a revamped Longhorns' defense under third-year coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, which has paved the way to the first double-digit win season in Austin since 2018. Texas ranks 36th nationally in total defense, 20th in scoring, and leads the nation in opponents' third-down success rate.

In Saturday's 26-16 win over Iowa State, Sweat was a dominating factor in making the Cyclones' offense one-dimensional. The 6-4, 362-pound lineman registered just one tackle, but he closed gaps up the middle to hold Iowa State's ground game to nine yards on 22 carries.

Sweat also blocked a point after attempt to keep Texas (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) ahead by six heading into the fourth quarter.

Longhorns RB CJ Baxter Impresses As Brooks' Replacement In Win Over Iowa State

“We preach on stopping the run,” Murphy said of the Longhorns' run defense. “That’s the key thing. That’s the first thing when it comes to the D-line. When it comes to Coach Bo (Davis) and the D-line, we’re stopping the run. We’re killing the run no matter what.”

Texas ranks fifth nationally in run defense, holding opponents to 82.7 yards per game and 2.46 yards per attempt. In conference play alone, only TCU running back Emani Bailey (98), and Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel (113) have rushed for over 60 yards per contest.

The Longhorns kickoff Senior Day at Royal-Memorial Stadium Friday at 6:30 p.m.
