WATCH: Texas Longhorns DB Malik Muhammad Makes Amazing Interception against Texas Tech
For their final regular season game of the year and as Big 12 members, the No. 7 Texas Longhorns are hosting in-state foes, Texas Tech.
After Texas' first drive in which they forced a Texas Tech punt and were able to set up a touchdown for the offense, the defense came up big again for the Longhorns. With starting corner Ryan Watts out due to an injury suffered on his first defensive snap, the Longhorns were forced to turn to former highly-touted recruit Malik Muhammad to fill in.
The Red Raiders clearly wanted to test the young Muhammad early and often, as quarterback Behren Morton targeted him a couple of times and may have regretted the second try. In a pass intended for the big-bodied receiver Jerand Bradley, Morton clearly was feeling the pressure and just chucked one up for grabs. While Bradley appeared to go up and get it, it was Muhammad who snatched it out of his hands for his first career interception.
Unfortunately for the Longhorns, they were unable to turn the interception into points as the offense stalled on their next drive. After a couple of completions, Quinn Ewers threw an incomplete pass, which was followed up by a pass to Xavier Worthy which appeared to be picked off in a similar fashion as that of Muhammad's.
However, after a long review, it was determined that the ball hit the ground, making it an interception. This forced Texas to settle for a field goal from about 50 yards, which was backed up due to a false start, turning a chance for points into a punt.
