Longhorns Coach Rodney Terry Being 'Pursued' By Two Programs - Report
In the middle of a March Madness run, Texas Longhorns athletic director Chris Del Conte won't be making any final decisions just yet regarding who will be the head coach of Texas men's basketball next season.
But interim head coach Rodney Terry has the Longhorns set to play in their first Sweet 16 since 2008 on Friday against Xavier, and has seemingly done more than enough to earn a full-time role as Texas' head coach.
Other programs have clearly taken notice, and the outside pursuit for Terry has reportedly already begun.
Per reports from the Austin American-Statesman on Wednesday, Penn State, Cal-Berkley and Texas Tech are three known programs that could potentially look to hire Terry as head coach.
However, though as interesting as it'd be to have Terry pack his bags and head to Lubbock next season, the Red Raiders have instead shifted their gaze to North Texas coach Grant McCasland, per the report.
Since taking over on Dec. 12, Terry has led Texas to a 21-7 record (including postseason) heading into the Sweet 16. The Longhorns won just their second Big 12 Tournament title ever and are currently tied for the third-most wins (28) in a single season in program history.
More history could be written for both Terry the Longhorns in the Sweet 16 on Friday against Xavier. Tip-off at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City is set for 8:45 p.m. CT.
