Joley Mitchell Joins Texas Longhorns Softball Roster

The Texas Longhorns have attracted four-year softball Notre Dame veteran Joley Mitchell to the Forty Acres.

After four years at the University of Notre Dame, Jolly Mitchell has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to join the Texas Longhorn softball roster, Texas head coach Mike White announced on Wednesday. With two years of college eligibility remaining, how can Mitchell add value to the Longhorns' softball program?

“Joley will be a difference maker for us over the next two years,” White said. “She will be a consistent power threat who will hit for average and have the speed to steal bases as well. More importantly, though, she will add leadership to our program with her work ethic, desire to be the best and overall grit to get the job done.”

Mitchell slashed .344/.420/.595 in her three years at Notre Dame that she stepped foot on the field. Even after missing the entire 2021 softball season, she had 299 official plate appearances from 116 total games in her college career. Mitchell recorded 103 total hits with the Fighting Irish and slammed a total of 17 homers in three seasons.

Through her collegiate seasons, Mitchell has experienced drastic improvement and has increased her productivity in the offseason. In 2020, Mitchell upheld a .234 batting percentage as a freshman with a shortened season. In 2022, her hitting percentage raised to .340 then hit its peak in 2023 with a .383 batting average and an All-ACC First Team selection.

Last season ended with a 15-game hitting streak for Mitchell and a 35-game on-base streak.

White will undoubtedly utilize Mitchell next season to expand Texas' productivity on the field and to hopefully make a deeper run in the NCAA tournament next season.
