Steve Sarkisian 'The Best' Offensive Coordinator Jeff Banks Has Encountered
Jeff Banks, who is now on Texas' coaching staff as special teams coordinator, has witnessed the growth, strategy and mentality of the Longhorns' head coach Steve Sarkisian since he took on the head coaching role in 2021. In a press conference on Tuesday, Banks praised Sarkisian's dedication to his team.
"His energy level is higher than everyone else in the building," Banks said. "Right off the bat, the number one thing that Sark brings to the table is energy and positivity."
Banks applauded Sarkisian for always being one step ahead of Texas' opponent's defense, which has made the Longhorns' offense so unpredictable and difficult to contain.
"No one is going to attack a defense more than Sark is going to, especially vertically," Banks said. "His vision to have a feel for the defensive play caller, what he's in, what he's doing and where he's headed with the plays and the design of the plays, is unbelievable."
In fact, Sarkisian has been so impressive recently that Banks considers him one of the best in the business.
"We've all been around good offensive coordinators, but he's the best I've been around," Banks said.
However, like in any good program, there is always room for improvement. Banks thinks that Sarkisian can work on familiarizing himself with the appropriate time to swap out players on the field.
"As far as juggling everything, obviously your three is going to be better than your two, your two is better than your one," Banks said. "Juggling it is a big deal. In college football, I think you get pulled off the field more than you do in the NFL because of recruiting. It is going to be important that he continues to grow in that aspect of managing the job, but I think he's done it.
