D'antre Robinson Felt 'at Home' Visiting Longhorns
Four-star 2024 defensive lineman D'antre Robinson chose to commit to the Texas Longhorns on July 20 over the Florida Gators, even as an Orlando, Fla. native. Recently, Robinson chatted with On3 to discuss his commitment decision and why Texas is so desirable to Florida recruits.
“I see Texas on the rise under Coach Sark…," Robinson said to On3's Chad Simmons. "In the near future, Texas is going to be a top SEC school. Texas is getting great recruiting classes, the coaches are great and I am definitely excited about my future at Texas. I feel like this will be one of the best decisions I make in my life.”
Robinson told On3 that his appearances on the Forty Acres felt like a home away from home, especially after seeing some familiar faces.
“The Texas Longhorns made me feel like I was at home at my unofficial visit and my official visit,” Robinson said. “It was a win-win situation for me, and I have a few guys from the Orlando area that go there.”
Both Payton Kirkland and Cedric Baxter are Florida natives who committed to the Texas football program as part of the 2023 recruiting class, and they ultimately factored in some weight to Robinson's official commitment.
However, Texas' shift to the SEC along with the desirability of the city of Austin has made the Texas Longhorns attractive to recruits from the Sunshine State, especially Robinson.
“The SEC has to play a role in people’s commitment to Texas from Florida, but the biggest thing for me is they always don’t talk about football,” Robinson said. “They want to talk about your life outside of football, and Austin is definitely a big city. Austin has a lot of opportunities outside of football even if you don’t make it in football. That’s a big thing that really catches a lot of people’s eye.”
